Word Perfect is saving my files as Read Only. How do I stop this from happening?

The same thing happens frequently to me ! When I try to save changes to a file where I've made changes WP says that file is 'Read Only', and will not permit the 'save'. Then I am forced to create a new file name to complete the 'save' -- which is an absolute pain.
