All users would benefit. Almost all WP users need to convert files back and forth to Word format in order to share documents with non-WP colleagues. Currently the default conversion is to the antiquated .doc format. One has to go through extra steps to convert to .docx. .docx has been the standard since 2007--please update the default conversion, or at least give users the option to set what the default is through preferences. Thank you.
WP has known about this issue since at least March of 2022, and 3 years later there is still no update! Very disappointing.
I get the point, but word will open a doc without complaining. When the file is saved it asks the user if it’s ok to update, so an end-user issue rather than a WP user problem (if it can be called that). Generally, upgrade docx handling is my wish
