EBook Macros

After reapeated failures to pass Smashwords' epubchecker with epub books I created using WP's macro, I did some digging. This post is intended to share what I found.1. I very recently purchased WP2020 Pro, mainly to smooth line my ebook production and publishing. And partially because my WPX7 Pro inexplicably no longer retained the graphics when the macro created a mobi or epub book. Nothing I did solved the problem despite support help (their removing tmp files advice proved a near disaster in mucking up my computer-in the end forcing me to RESTORE to get functionality back) including reinstalling after nuking the program and everything related to it. I saved my WP files on another drive to protect from possible loss. So I bought WP2020 Pro which did solve that graphics problem. Please keep number 1 here in mind for what will be shard later in this post.2. Calibre wasn't an option as new versions require Win10. I refuse to leave Win7 because I don't like how Win10 behaves on my wife's computer. So I went looking for alternate solutions which included epub editors and mobi to epub converters. In the process, I learned that Corel hasn't done anything to keep their ebook macro updated; and that's a BIG part of my problem. "Whatcha talkin 'bout, Willis!?" I'm talking about the WP2020 Pro ebook macros are severely out of date, and that is likely why Smashwords invalidates the epub uploads.Regarding mobi files:The file type .mobi is an eBook format created by a French eBook company called Mobipocket which created a free software application for multiple devices including PDAs, smartphones and tablet devices. The company was bought by Amazon in 2005 and the support of the .mobi file extension was officially discontinued in 2011 with the AZW format superseding it. [https://www.zamzar.com/convert/mobi-to-epub/]Regarding epub files:EPUB is the successor to the Open eBook Standard, and became an official IDPF (International Digital Publishing Forum) specification in October 2007. In the spring of 2010 the IDPF made plans for the next iteration and after many months of hard deliberation they formally release EPUB3 in October 2011. [https://www.epubbooks.com/epub]It's amazing Corel didn't bother to keep up to date given the otherwise very high quality of WP. Wisdom would dictate they create a plug-in or something that updated the macros so it meets the requirements of contemporary ebook authors. Otherwise, they see this market audience go over to the dark side (MS Word) - Using Microsoft Word and WordToEPUB, you can convert documents to the latest EPUB 3 format. WordToEPUB is for anyone who would like to create an EPUB file using Microsoft Word on Windows. OR-GASP! Join the Borg: = Amazon http://activitypress.com/2011/10/25/...ndle-format-8/I hope Corel is listening and acts fast for the sake of long time loyal users like myself. WP should be at the forefront, not lagging behind.
